Abortion Opinion Polling

Most Saskatchewan residents oppose the United States Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

A new independent poll conducted by Insightrix Research, Inc. shows a sizeable majority of Saskatchewan residents (77%) oppose the United States Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and no longer provide a federal constitutional right to an abortion. Many residents feel strongly about this decision, with two thirds (66%) strongly opposing it.

Opposition of the Roe v. Wade decision is high across demographic groups: more than two thirds of residents of each gender, region and religious belief oppose the ruling.

Half of Saskatchewan residents believe women should have the right to an abortion under any circumstance. This view is most common among younger residents. Very few believe women should have the right to an abortion under no circumstances.

Based on the Roe v. Wade decision, many Saskatchewan residents believe it is likely that more laws in the United States could be reversed and access to contraception may be restricted. Relatively few believe it is likely that abortions may become restricted or banned in Canada.

Research Details

A total of 801 randomly selected SaskWatch Research® panel members participated in the online research study between June 29 and July 2, 2022. Quotas were set by age, gender and region to match the general population of the province and as such the data did not need to be weighted.

Since the research is conducted online, it is considered to be a non-probability proportion sample; therefore, margins of error are not applicable.  However, the margin of error can be estimated to be ±3.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20 for questions answered by all respondents.
