Happy New Year, SaskWatch Members! With 2022 well on its way, we wanted to jump-start the year by thanking our members for donating their points to charities around Saskatchewan.
In past 5 years, SaskWatch members donated 206847 points to charities across the province. We are proud of our members choosing to donate their survey earnings to a charity that they are passionate about.
So many charities are deserving of donations, including The Lighthouse Supported Living , a charitable, non-profit organization located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, has done some fantastic work for the local community since 1992.
The Lighthouse Supported Living is an emergency shelter, supported living and affordable housing provider offering a range of services to people experiencing homelessness and poverty to help them overcome barriers and achieve self-sufficiency. The Lighthouse supports 300 people on our downtown campus and community housing programs. Many Lighthouse clients cope with addictions, mental health issues and a lifetime of trauma. In addition, many clients live with an intellectual disability, FASD, ABI or other non-visible disabilities.
While the shelter system gets the most public attention, it is only 15% of their services. Accessing an emergency shelter can be the first step in finding a home, and the Lighthouse supports shelter guests to stabilize by providing a safe roof over their heads and three nutritious meals a day. The Lighthouse is also integral to connecting clients to in-house addictions counselling and other community programs and helping them find appropriate housing from our housing supply or another housing provider. In partnership with the Sask Health Authority, they support more than 40 people who come to the Lighthouse from the Dubé Centre and surrounding hospitals. These individuals need a comfortable area to transition back into the community from a hospital stay and still require nursing support and case management. Their intensive one-on-one supports 12 adults annually with extreme challenges in the Ministry of Social Services Community Living Service Delivery program.
Our mission is to end chronic homelessness through effective programs, partnerships, and advocacy. The goal of The Lighthouse is to support people to live their best life.
